What Katy did (verbatim ): “10 sandcastles destroyed. 4 lunches and 1 supper eaten on the beach. 1⅓ mountains conquered. 3 islands hopped. 8 mackerel caught (on 1 line!)…” Get the picture? Actually there was a lot more, including: stags spotted, caves discovered, trees climbed, castles visited, sunsets, reels, croquet and “please may we come again next year!” There really is a lot to do both locally and further afield. The fishing village of Arisaig is the point of departure for the Small Isles ferry (Rhum, Eigg, Muck and Canna) and a short sea crossing from Mallaig sets you ashore on the Isle of Skye. On the way to Mallaig you skirt the white sands of Morar with that bumper view of the Islands and the Black Cuillin mountains of Skye. Alternatively, you can stay around the gardens and relax entirely; or boat, fish, swim or snorkel a few 100 yards from the house.
A comparative newcomer on the Road to the Isles is its railway, the Mallaig Line (begun in the late 1860s) which follows the road route for much of the journey. Beasdale, the local station, was placed there for the benefit of the owners of Arisaig House when the railway came through shortly after the house was built. So there’s no problem about dropping in by rail and, if you hit a day when the train is steam-hauled, you are up for an unforgettable experience of world heritage standard, especially when the train crosses the Glenfinnan Viaduct at the head of Loch Shiel. The Mallaig Line has world status.

Loved the games room and the beaches. Thanks for the food for our journey and all the food we had.
